Article submitted by Yorik van Havre. Chico Ortiz (Thorgal on blenderartists) just made a small but excellent blender game. The game was made for an exhibition called "Santos Dumont, designer" in São Paulo, Brazil, until 3rd of May. The exhibition shows many aeroplane sketches and models (one is full-size), and Chico made a small flight [...]

Before going into animation, shots need to be layed out- cameras, set, props, positioning of characters and vehicles, etc. before we are ready to animate. Typically I will want to pose the character in the basic position for the shot, just to give an ... [More] idea for the animator to start.Of course, we are currently not ready for animation- we are missing too many models, and even don?t have a final blessed character concept- nonetheless, I decided to take an aproach that would not ?block? too much at these details, and to do basic layouts with a generic character, to be replaced with ?the real? rig once we have it done.I started with Nathan?s excellent generic biped rig, and modified a little bit to make it roughly the right length (170cm by the scale of the project, instead of the default 2 meter giant ) and also to suggest that the character is a female. If you want, here is the biped rig with our modifications, to use with the same terms Nathan has for his Biped rig. [Less]

I just came from the movie house with my friend and my two younger siblings. Of all the sci-fi movies I have watched, this one is yet the best I've seen around. It's not the cliche type nor is it the "i-know-what-will-happen-next" type of film.I ... [More] hate to admit it but I think this is way better than those produced by Spielberg. It has just the moderate amount of visual effects (as far as story [Less]

For a school project to create a public service announcment, I am using Blender as both a compositor and 3d animation program.  Due to time constrants, I decided not to hunt down people willing to lend my team their livingrooms.  So I have to model ... [More] the livingrooms in 3d.  The university?s greenscreen is all I need.Last week Rudy and I shot the inside shots, next week we?ll be shooting the last shot, which is outside.  The PSA is being made (for free) for the Arkansas Governors Council on Fitness, for my script writing class.Below is a screen shot of the work so far (the background is temporary.)  Instead of using chroma key, I?m using a method outlined by Alison/?Deep Thought?, which you can find on his website here? I recommend you read his tutorial instead of using my screen shot, as I?m doing some extra stuff specific to the project. [Less]

Things are going slowly around here. Because the crew and I have regular jobs, we're forced to work on this project at a snails pace. One of the only things remaining in the pre-production stage is completing an animatic that will lay out the way the ... [More] characters and camera moves in the film. Once this is completed, I believe we will get a better response from animators, showing them that we are serious and committed to this project.Word to our blog viewers: Please feel free to comment on our work. Maybe you have suggestions or ideas (or negative feedback) for Masters of the Antarctic. Even if you can't find anything wrong with our perfect project (*wink*), we'd love to hear from you anyway. Just write out a shout out to tell us that you are watching the film's progress.Sneak peek on next week's post: The lowdown on our film's composer, Roc Chen. [Less]
