On saturday I was driving a bit too fast on my way to work. Its nothing unusual. I’m always trying to sleep as long as I can… and a bit longer Because of that I usually go out a bit late. This time my car had a little jump at speed of about 80 km/h. ... [More] Nothing serious, but hey, its 11 years old. I heard a very loud bang on front right side when car was landing. At first I thought that tyre exploded so I stopped immediately to take a look. Well, there was no visible damage so I tried to continue driving. Everything looked fined except there was a horrible rumble when speed was over 20 km/h. Fortunately I had only 5 km to mechanic so I slowly got there and left car in hope they’ll repair it before I’ll end work. And so they did - after replacing front coil springs along with shock absorbers everything works fine again. Moral: sleep more and slow down before bumps to avoid 5 km walks in the morning [Less]

The ... [More] default runtime is arguably the most limited and antiquated of them all.Time for a change, folks?(Anyone want to help write a pluggable backend and simultaneously help me target GObject?) The book meme is still alive, so once again:Grab the nearest book.Open it to page 56.Find the fifth sentence.Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the ... [More] intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST."When the QLabels are added to the status bar, they are automatically reparented to make them children of the status bar."And the winner is "C GUI Programming with Qt 4" second edition by Jasmin Blanchette and Mark Summerfield. Thank <deity> this wasn't "ANSI C" by Kernighan and Ritchie which is lying beneath the Qt book, but sadly Stanisław Lem's "Tales of Pirx the Pilot" where to far away, although also on top of another stack of booksLooks like Mark D. is right - we all are depressingly geeky...
